Stan Kroenke to Acquire Los Angeles Angels and Propose $2.5 B New Stadium

Summary

Stan Kroenke is set to purchase the Los Angeles Angels for an estimated $4.5 billion, with plans to build a $2.5 billion stadium to replace the current Angel Stadium, pending MLB approval.

Los Angeles Angels owner Arte Moreno has agreed to sell the franchise to billionaire Stan Kroenke for an estimated $4.5 billion, according to a Forbes report. The transaction is expected to close in early 2027 after receiving Major League Baseball’s approval. Kroenke, whose portfolio includes the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams and the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche, has announced intentions to construct a new stadium costing about $2.5 billion to replace the 1966-built Angel Stadium, which has undergone several renovations.

Kroenke’s experience with large-scale sports venues includes overseeing the $5.5 billion SoFi Stadium complex in Los Angeles. His ownership groups have captured titles in the NFL, NHL, NBA, MLS and the English Premier League, making him one of the most successful owners in North American sports.

Angels star Mike Trout said, "Look at his track record. It's all there. So, I'm super excited to meet him, get to know him a little bit, and see where it goes."

The Angels have made the postseason only once since 2009, exiting in the 2014 American League Division Series. Analysts suggest that Kroenke’s willingness to invest heavily in a new facility could signal a push for greater on-field competitiveness.
