Tiger Woods Pleads No Contest to Reduced Driving Charge in Florida Case

सारांश

Tiger Woods accepted a plea deal that reduced DUI charges to reckless driving, resulting in a five-year license suspension and a $1,500 fine.

Tiger Woods entered a plea of no contest to a reduced reckless-driving charge and a refusal-to-submit-to-test charge in Martin County, Florida, after a rollover crash near his home earlier this year. The 50-year-old golfer avoided jail time, but agreed to a five-year driver’s-license suspension and a $1,500 fine.

The incident occurred in March on Jupiter Island when Woods’ Land Rover collided with a truck pulling a trailer. Both drivers escaped injury. Police said Woods told officers he was under the influence and was found with two hydrocodone pills.

Prosecutors had indicated that a conviction on the original DUI charges could have carried up to a year in county jail. State Attorney Thomas Bakkedahl said the plea is treated as a conviction, though it does not constitute an admission of guilt.

Woods’ attorney declined to comment, and Woods left the courthouse without speaking to reporters. He was accompanied by his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, former daughter-in-law of President Donald Trump.

In a statement posted to social media after the crash, Woods said he understood the seriousness of the situation and was seeking treatment. The court hearing concluded without further remarks from the golfer.
