Midweek Storm System Brings Heavy Rain and Strong Winds to Northeast Cities

Ամփոփում

A cold front moving through the Northeast from Wednesday to Friday may produce heavy rain, damaging winds, hail and isolated flooding risks for areas including New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

A fast-moving cold front is expected to affect the Northeast over the next several days, bringing the possibility of heavy rain, strong gusts and hail to major metropolitan areas. The Storm Prediction Center has identified a zone of potential severe weather for Wednesday, with storms developing early in the eastern Great Lakes and interior Northeast before moving southeastward toward New York City, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia. A second round of storms could occur late Wednesday into early Thursday.

Forecasters say the main hazards will be heavy rainfall, damaging wind gusts and hail. The pattern is likely to continue into Thursday and Friday, shifting slightly southward each day. Thursday’s activity may again develop early and move quickly southeastward, affecting Washington, D.C., Richmond, Pittsburgh and Columbus during the evening commute. By Friday, the highest risk is projected over the Virginias and North Carolina.

While no flood watches are currently in effect, the cumulative rain totals of one to three inches over several days could lead to isolated or urban flooding in vulnerable areas. Residents are advised to stay informed of any updates from local authorities.
