Bank of America vice president killed in Times Square stabbing

Résumé

A Bank of America vice president was fatally stabbed in Times Square, and a second victim was injured; police say the attack appeared random.

A 32-year-old vice president of Bank of America was killed during a stabbing in New York City’s Times Square on Monday, police said. The victim, identified as Erin Piacenti, worked in the bank’s business selection and conflicts unit. An additional 68-year-old man was wounded but remains in stable condition.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch described the incident near West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue as “random and unprovoked.” Officers responding to the scene encountered a 49-year-old woman, Pamela Cisneros, who brandished two large knives. After attempts to disarm her with a stun gun failed, officers shot her; she later died and had a documented mental-health history.

Bank of America issued a statement expressing shock and sadness over the loss, noting Piacenti’s contributions and extending condolences to her family. Matthew Koder, the bank’s president of global corporate and investment banking, called Piacenti a “cherished teammate and friend” in an internal memo and said the bank’s security teams are cooperating fully with the investigation and reviewing office safety measures.

Fordham Law School, where Piacenti earned her law degree in 2021, also released a statement expressing heartbreak over her death.
