Man arrested for posing as 49ers player booked in Idaho awaiting transfer to Oregon

Summary

Daejon Love, accused of defrauding women by claiming to be an NFL player, was booked in Idaho and will be transferred to Oregon to face federal wire-fraud charges.

Daejon Love, 35, was taken into custody at Boise Airport on Aug. 24 and booked in an Idaho detention facility while awaiting transfer to Oregon, where he will face two federal counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud. Federal prosecutors allege that from February 2022 until his arrest, Love and an 18-year-old accomplice, Taylor Chan, used dating apps to convince 26 women to send them money, claiming Love was a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers and that the funds would be invested. The complaint states the scheme netted about $1.3 million.

Love is being held on a “serious risk of flight” determination, according to a spokesperson for the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon. His next court appearance will be scheduled after the transfer. Chan has been released pending trial, with an initial hearing set for Sept. 10 in Oregon. Both charges carry potential sentences of up to 20 years in prison.
