Jaguars finalize practice squad, add quarterback Quinn Ewers and retain several young players
Jacksonville completed its practice squad, keeping backup quarterback Nick Mullens, signing quarterback Quinn Ewers, and retaining several second-year defenders and undrafted rookies.
Jacksonville, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars filled 15 of the 17 available practice-squad spots on Monday, finalising the unit that will support the 53-man roster announced on Sunday. The moves include keeping quarterback Nick Mullens on the practice squad after his release and adding quarterback Quinn Ewers, a transaction that effectively cost the team a projected 2028 seventh-round pick linked to a separate trade involving Hunter Long.
Ewers replaces Carter Bradley on the depth chart, giving the team an additional option behind starter Trevor Lawrence and second-string quarterback. While the impact of Ewers on the offense remains uncertain, the roster now features Mullens as the third-string quarterback.
The Jaguars also retained three second-year defensive players who were waived on Sunday: cornerback Jabbar Muhammad and linebackers Jack Kiser and Jelen McLeod. All three remain in the organization for further development.
Among the undrafted rookies kept on the practice squad, running back J'Mari Taylor drew attention for his performance in training camp and the preseason, positioning him as a potential future promotion.
Quarterback Joey Aguilar earned a practice-squad spot after a preseason competition with Carter Bradley, who was released with an injury designation. Aguilar is expected to develop within the organization.
Linebacker Yasir Abdullah, the only player claimed off waivers, was picked up by the Atlanta Falcons. The Jaguars did not retain him, citing limited need for an additional inside linebacker on the active roster.
