Police shot and killed a 49-year-old woman after she stabbed a man and a woman in Times Square; the victims were taken to Bellevue Hospital, where the woman and one victim died.

New York City police officers shot and killed a 49-year-old woman after she attacked two pedestrians with knives in Times Square on Monday. The suspect, identified as Pamela Cisneros of Queens, stabbed a 68-year-old man in the abdomen and, moments later, a woman in the stomach. Police engaged her, speaking for about four minutes before she refused to drop the weapons, telling officers she would "rather kill both of you," according to police commissioner Jessica Tisch.

Officers attempted to subdue Cisneros with stun devices, but she continued advancing with the knives, prompting two officers to fire their service weapons. Body-camera footage captured the exchange, Tisch said. All three individuals were transported to Bellevue Hospital; Cisneros and the female victim were pronounced dead, while the male victim remains in stable condition.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Police Commissioner Tisch defended the officers’ use of lethal force, noting that the incident will undergo the standard investigation for officer-involved shootings. > "I want to thank the NYPD officers who stepped in and prevented a horrific attack from becoming even worse," Mamdani said.
