Trump says U.S. will respond to Iran's attacks on Jordan and UAE
President Donald Trump pledged a limited military response after Iran struck U.S. bases in Jordan and launched drones toward the United Arab Emirates, following a U.S. strike on Iranian rocket launchers in the Strait of Hormuz.
President Donald Trump told Fox News that the United States would take "a response" to recent Iranian attacks on American facilities in Jordan, describing the forthcoming action as "very limited." The remarks came after U.S. forces hit two rocket launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz, marking the first known American strike since late July. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the attack killed and injured several of its personnel and vowed retaliation, later announcing missile attacks on U.S. bases in Jordan, which the Jordanian military said intercepted.
Iran also launched drones toward an air base in the United Arab Emirates; the UAE defense ministry reported engaging at least one drone over its waters. The Iranian foreign ministry warned of a firm response to any further U.S. aggression. U.S. Central Command described its action as a limited measure to counter IRGC minelaying that threatened civilian shipping in the strait.
During the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran does not seek war but criticized the United States for not honoring its commitments toward a peace agreement. Meanwhile, an Iranian energy official dismissed a Trump-shared video depicting an explosion on Kharg Island as inaccurate, stating that oil operations continued without interruption.
