Apple expected to unveil AirPods 5 at September 9 event
Apple is slated to introduce two versions of its next-generation AirPods, likely without cameras, at its September 9 product launch alongside new iPhone and Apple Watch models.
Apple is expected to launch its next-generation AirPods at the September 9 event, where it will also unveil new iPhone, Apple Watch Ultra 4, Series 12 and iPhone Ultra models. The AirPods 5 are rumored to arrive in two variants – one with active noise cancellation and one without – and are not expected to include the camera feature that some recent leaks suggested.
Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman said Apple plans to debut the updated entry-level earbuds, which were last refreshed in 2024, and that a camera-equipped version is not anticipated until 2027. He added on X that the AirPods 5 will likely not inherit the heart-rate sensor found in the AirPods Pro 3, though Apple is reportedly exploring additional health features such as a temperature sensor.
Gurman also noted that Apple is developing an H3 chip aimed at reducing latency and improving audio quality, but it is unclear whether the new AirPods will incorporate this processor, as the H2 chip was initially limited to the AirPods Pro line.
Details beyond the expected two models remain scarce, and Apple may reveal further specifications during the September announcement.
