A 20-year-old William Jewell College running back died Saturday following a medical emergency that stopped the team's home game, with officials withholding the cause of death.
A 20-year-old running back for William Jewell College in Missouri died Saturday after experiencing a medical emergency on the sideline that led to the suspension of the school's home football game. The college identified the student as Micah Jo Barnett, a junior majoring in business administration, but did not disclose the cause of death.
The college's vice president of athletics described Barnett as an "exceptional young man" and requested privacy for his family. A teammate, defensive lineman Jayshawn Richmond, said Barnett had just scored a touchdown before the incident and called him a "hometown kid" who was well respected by peers.
A vigil was held on campus Saturday night, and funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.
