Camilla expected to support King Charles as Prince Harry returns to the UK
Royal commentators say Queen Camilla will prioritize King Charles' health and relationship with his grandchildren as Prince Harry and his family resume visits to Britain.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle arrived in the United Kingdom on Aug. 26, bringing their children, Archie and Lilibet, who are set to start school in September. The visit follows a private meeting at Highgrove House on July 10 that included King Charles, Queen Camilla and the Sussexes.
Royal analysts note that the king, who is undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness, is keen to rebuild ties with his grandchildren, and that Camilla is likely to back her husband while he navigates the reconciliation process. "Camilla has weathered far bigger storms than the Sussexes’ 2020 move, or Prince Harry’s book, ‘Spare,’" commentator Meredith Constant told Fox News Digital. "She’s going to go through the motions and put on a good face for her husband as he works on his relationship with his younger son."
Experts also observe that the royal family is presenting a united front despite differing views on how to handle Harry’s return. "While Prince William and King Charles are not in lockstep over how to handle Prince Harry’s return, they understand that they are a unit with their respective wives," Constant added.
Biographer Tom Bower reported that Camilla offered Harry tea during the Highgrove meeting, describing the interaction as polite and without recrimination. Historian Catherine Mayer said Camilla is a "non-negotiable part of Charles’ life" and that any reconciliation with the king would involve her.
Harry has previously expressed a desire for reconciliation, stating in a 2025 interview that "there’s no point in continuing to fight anymore" and acknowledging uncertainty about his father's health. Kensington Palace declined to comment on personal family matters, and Buckingham Palace did not respond to requests for comment.
