Bengals announce initial 53-man roster with several surprise cuts and additions

Resumen

Cincinnati released its first 53-man roster, highlighting newcomers like Dohnte Meyers and Ke’Shawn Williams while cutting players such as Charlie Jones and Ja’Sir Taylor.

Cincinnati finalized its first 53-man roster on Sunday, trimming the preseason squad to the league-required limit. The cuts and selections set the stage for the team’s push toward a potential Super Bowl appearance.

Among the players who secured spots were wide receiver Dohnte Meyers, who led the preseason in receptions and yards, and seventh-round pick linebacker Landon Robinson, who recorded multiple sacks in preseason action. Defensive end Shemar Stewart avoided the injured-reserve list despite a knee hyperextension, while offensive lineman Jalen Rivers earned a backup role after other linemen were placed on IR.

Ke’Shawn Williams surprised observers by making the roster as the sixth wide receiver and primary return specialist, surpassing other candidates in both receiving and return statistics. Running back Tahj Brooks retained his position as the third-string back, despite modest preseason production.

The roster also retained linebackers Demetrius Knight and Barrett Carter as the primary starters at the position, with limited competition from other players on the depth chart.

Players released or relegated to the practice squad included wide receivers Charlie Jones and Mitchell Tinsley, both of whom were outperformed by the newly added receivers. Defensive back Ja’Sir Taylor was placed on injured reserve, opening a roster spot that allowed defensive tackle Josh Newton to remain on the active list. Third-round pick McKinnley Jackson was moved to the practice squad after the team added veteran defensive ends Dexter Lawrence and Jonathan Allen.
