Scheffler clinches second FedEx Cup title and tops PGA Tour earnings
World number one Scottie Scheffler secured his second FedEx Cup victory at the Tour Championship, earning $10 million and moving to the top of the PGA Tour career money list.
World number one Scottie Scheffler overcame a three-stroke deficit to win the season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta, posting a four-under 66 that was the only sub-par round among the final three pairings. The victory, his 22nd on the PGA Tour, brings a $10 million prize and lifts his career earnings to $130.4 million, surpassing Tiger Woods for the all-time lead.
Viktor Hovland, who led after the first round, faltered with a two-over 72 and finished second, while American rookie Ryan Gerard posted a 72 to take third place at 12 under par. Rory McIlroy could not repeat his Saturday form, carding a 69 with five bogeys and ending tied for seventh.
"To come from behind and be able to win tournament is a really cool feeling," Scheffler said. "There were a lot of talented guys in front of me on the leaderboard. I was fortunate to get off to a good start and put myself in the mix. It's a gift to be out here on tour. Each and every day I'm going to try to give it my best."
Other notable performances included Justin Rose’s hole-in-one on the ninth hole and Alex Fitzpatrick’s matching 66, which lifted him to a tie for fourth in his debut. Fitzpatrick, 27, had earlier won the Indian Open and partnered with his brother Matt to capture the Zurich Classic pairs title.
