Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen arrested on DUI charges hours after preseason debut
Indianapolis wide receiver Keenan Allen was arrested early Sunday on two misdemeanor DUI-related charges, days before his first regular-season game, and will appear in court on Sept. 16.
Indianapolis police arrested wide receiver Keenan Allen at about 1 a.m. Sunday after officers observed his vehicle parked in a no-parking zone on South Meridian Street and noted signs of intoxication. The investigation led to two preliminary misdemeanor charges: operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 or higher, and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person. Allen was released from the Marion County Arrestee Processing Center later that afternoon and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 16, three days before the Colts’ season opener against the Baltimore Ravens.
Allen had made his first appearance for Indianapolis in the preseason finale on Saturday, catching a 24-yard pass from quarterback Anthony Richardson. The Colts issued a brief statement saying they are aware of the incident and are gathering more information, adding that they have no further comment at this time.
Under the NFL’s Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse, commissioner Roger Goodell may impose discipline, including a possible three-game suspension for a first-offense alcohol violation, though the league typically waits for the legal process to conclude before acting. Previous alcohol-related suspensions were issued months after the initial arrests.
