Seahawks project final 53-man roster ahead of cut-down day
Analyst projections show the Seattle Seahawks shaping a 53-player roster with several veterans likely moving to the practice squad and a few preseason stand-outs expected to make the team.
Seattle is expected to announce its initial 53-man roster on Sunday, with the final cuts likely to be adjusted before the season opener against the New England Patriots. The projection includes quarterback Sam Darnold, Drew Lock and Jalen Milroe, noting that Milroe’s recent performance has secured his spot. Running backs Jadarian Price, Emanuel Wilson and George Holani are listed, while Jacardia Wright and Velus Jones Jr. are projected to be cut; Zach Charbonnet is on the physically unable to perform list and may return in October.
Wide receiver depth is projected to feature Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Cooper Kupp, Rashid Shaheed, Tory Horton and Montorie Foster, with several fringe players such as Cody White and Emmanuel Henderson Jr. expected to join the practice squad. Tight end A.J. Barner, Elijah Arroyo, Eric Saubert and Nick Kallerup remain, and veteran Nick Vannett is likely to be moved to the practice squad.
On the offensive line, the roster includes Charles Cross, Abe Lucas, Josh Jones, Anthony Bradford, Olu Oluwatimi, Jalen Sundell, Grey Zabel, Christian Haynes and Beau Stephens, while several backups are projected to be released or placed on the practice squad.
Defensively, the line is set to keep Byron Murphy II, Leonard Williams, Jarran Reed, Rylie Mills, Mike Morris and Brandon Pili, with a number of reserve players slated for cuts. Outside linebackers Derick Hall, Uchenna Nwosu, Dante Fowler Jr. and DeMarcus Lawrence are projected to make the roster, while several others are expected to be waived. Inside linebackers Ernest Jones IV, Drake Thomas, Tyrice Knight and Patrick O’Connell remain, with Chazz Surratt listed on injured reserve for a possible return.
Cornerbacks Devon Witherspoon, Josh Jobe, Nehemiah Pritchett, Julian Neal, Noah Igbinoghene and Andre Fuller are projected to stay, with Terrion Arnold signed but placed on the exempt list. Safety Julian Love, Ty Okada, Nick Emmanwori, A.J. Finley and D’Anthony Bell round out the secondary, with a few players expected to clear waivers and join the practice squad.
Special teams retain kicker Jason Myers, punter Michael Dickson and long snapper Chris Stoll, with no cuts anticipated in those positions. The analyst notes that waiver claims are typically low league-wide and that the Minnesota Vikings may monitor Seattle’s cuts closely.
