Seahawks finish preseason with 9-9 tie against Chiefs amid kicker struggles

Seattle wrapped up its 2026 preseason with a 9-9 draw against the Kansas City Chiefs after a missed 52-yard field-goal attempt by kicker Jason Myers. The tie also resulted from an earlier missed extra point by Myers. The Seahawks fielded primarily backup players, while the Chiefs used several starters, including Travis Kelce and Chris Jones.
Quarterback Jalen Milroe led Seattle’s offense, completing over 200 passing yards and a touchdown pass to Nick Vannett. He also recorded a rushing touchdown that was nullified by a holding penalty. Milroe’s performance was highlighted for his decision-making and deep throws of 40, 30 and 24 yards.
Myers struggled with three missed kicks in three preseason games, prompting concerns about his reliability. The Seahawks’ rushing attack was limited to 54 yards, and the defense allowed 155 rushing yards. Backup offensive linemen faced criticism for missed blocks and penalties, contributing to 90 penalty yards for the team.
Defensively, Nehemiah Pritchett continued to earn playing time at cornerback, and newcomer Trevon Diggs recorded an interception after only two practices. Safety Rodney Thomas II returned from injury, while depth concerns persisted at the safety position.
Special teams contributor Jamie Sheriff recorded two tackles, and edge-rusher competition remained open. Analysts, including former Chiefs quarterback and NFL commentator Trent Green, noted Milroe’s potential during the broadcast.
Despite the lack of preseason victories, the Seahawks gained valuable experience for their young roster as they prepare for the regular season.
