Fred Johnson’s status remains uncertain, though he is likely to retain a roster spot.

Defensive edge positions are expected to feature Jonathan Greenard, Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt, Arnold Ebiketie, A.J. Epenesa and Joshua Weru, with Greenard’s health being a key factor. Linebacker depth includes Zack Baun, Jihaad Campbell, Jeremiah Trotter, Smael Mondon and Chance Campbell, a player highlighted by defensive coordinator Vic Fangio as a roster priority. Cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, Riq Woolen, Mac McWilliams, Kelee Ringo and Jonathan Jones are projected to fill the secondary, with Jones expected to return from injury soon.

Safeties Andrew Mukuba, Marcus Epps and Michael Carter round out the defensive backfield, while special teams are projected to retain kicker Jake Elliott, punter Braden Mann and long snapper Rocco Underwood. Eli Stowers and safety Cole Wisniewski are slated for injured reserve with designations to return.

Players not making the active roster, including Andy Dalton, Dameon Pierce, Carson Steele, Britain Covey, Elijah Moore, Grant Calcaterra, E.J. Jenkins, John Ojukwu, Cameron Williams, Jake Majors, Keyshawn James-Newby, Gabe Hall, Zion Wilson, Deontae Lawson, Kapena Gushiken, Maximus Pulley and others, are expected to join the practice squad.
