Southwind Foods Recalls Frozen Shrimp Over Potential Radioactive Contamination

Summary

Southwind Foods has recalled multiple brands of frozen shrimp due to potential Cesium-137 contamination, following similar actions by Walmart earlier this week.

Southwind Foods, based in Carson, California, has initiated a recall of several frozen shrimp products due to potential contamination with Cesium-137, a radioactive isotope. The affected brands include Sand Bar, Arctic Shores, Best Yet, Great American, and First Street. These products were distributed between July 17 and August 8 to retailers and wholesalers in nine states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia, and Washington.

This recall follows a similar action by Walmart earlier this week, which recalled packages of Great Value frozen raw shrimp sold in 13 states after federal officials detected Cesium-137 in shipping containers and a sample of frozen breaded shrimp imported by BMS Foods of Indonesia.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is actively investigating reports of Cesium-137 contamination in shipping containers and frozen shrimp products processed by PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati (doing business as BMS Foods) of Indonesia.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled frozen shrimp are advised not to consume the product and should dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. For questions regarding the Southwind Foods recall, consumers can contact the company at 1-323-262-8222 during normal business hours (8 am-4 pm Pacific Time).
