Google Pixel 11 offers modem, camera and display upgrades over Pixel 9

Résumé

A review comparing the Pixel 11 with the older Pixel 9 highlights improvements in the modem, camera system, screen brightness, battery capacity and new AI features, suggesting a stronger case for upgrading.

Google's latest flagship, the Pixel 11, introduces several hardware and software enhancements that differentiate it from the two-year-old Pixel 9. The device replaces Samsung's Exynos modem with a MediaTek model, delivering faster download speeds and more reliable 5G connectivity in weak signal areas, according to internal testing.

The camera suite also receives a notable boost: a 48-megapixel primary sensor that captures 56% more light and the addition of a telephoto lens on the base model, enabling optical zoom without needing the Pro variant.

Display brightness has been raised to a peak of 3,000 nits, up from 2,700 nits on the Pixel 9, improving outdoor readability. Battery capacity increases modestly to 4,985 mAh, and the phone now includes native Qi2 magnetic charging support, eliminating the need for a magnetic case.

Software-wise, the Pixel 11 is among the first devices to ship with Google’s Gemini Intelligence, an AI framework that offers system-level features such as App Automation and speech-to-text refinement. Compatibility of these features with older Pixel models remains uncertain.

While the Pixel 9 remains functional, the cumulative upgrades in connectivity, imaging, display, power and AI capabilities may persuade current owners to consider the newer model.
