Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs charged with misdemeanor battery and property damage
Josh Jacobs faces misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal damage to property after a May 23 incident in Hobart, with a court appearance set for Nov. 17.
Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs was charged Thursday with misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property stemming from an incident that occurred on May 23 at a residence in Hobart. Police were dispatched after 911 callers reported yelling and swearing before the line was disconnected. The victim, identified in the complaint as her girlfriend, said the dispute began over Jacobs speaking to other women.
According to the criminal complaint, the altercation moved to a bedroom where Jacobs allegedly paced, used a derogatory term, and threatened the victim. The victim attempted to call police, then tried to leave the house. Jacobs reportedly grabbed her, threw her to the ground, causing a head injury, and seized her phone. An officer observed redness on the victim’s face and neck and felt a bump on the back of her head. Surveillance video showed Jacobs taking the phone and later damaging it, though the footage did not capture the alleged assault inside the home.
Jacobs has not commented publicly. His legal team said the Brown County District Attorney filed misdemeanor charges that do not include domestic-violence allegations and that the case will be addressed in court. The Packers organization acknowledged the charges and said it will cooperate with the NFL, adding that it has no further comment. NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said the league is monitoring the situation, which remains under review.
Jacobs faces up to 18 months in prison if convicted on both counts. He is also subject to an NFL investigation that could result in a suspension, and none of his remaining $25 million salary is guaranteed. His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 17, coinciding with the Packers’ bye week.
