WNBA player Cameron Brink criticizes Enes Kanter Freedom and backs transgender athletes

Resumen

Los Angeles Sparks center Cameron Brink denounced former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom's conduct at a recent WNBA game and reaffirmed her support for transgender women athletes.

Los Angeles Sparks center Cameron Brink said former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom was removed from a recent WNBA game after confronting Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud and accused him of seeking attention at the expense of the transgender community. Brink made the comments before the Sparks' matchup with the Atlanta Dream, telling a reporter that she views trans issues as "a non-issue" and criticized Freedom for using the topic for "clickbait" and "views."

"When it comes to the trans issues, I think it’s a nonissue, and I think it’s people trying to just come for the trans community, and I just don’t stand for that," Brink said.

"I think taking something that’s a nonissue right now and just trying to use it for clickbait or for views, for likes, and then targeting a vulnerable community, is just really low," she added.

Brink previously expressed support for transgender and gender-nonconforming teammates in a 2024 interview, emphasizing the need for broader acceptance. The WNBA has ruled both Kanter Freedom and former NBA player Royce White ineligible for the league, citing the collective bargaining agreement that limits eligibility to players who are women. No transgender athletes currently play in the WNBA, though several players, including Natasha Cloud, Gabby Williams and Stefanie Dolson, have spoken out in defense of the transgender community.
