The National Hurricane Center said Tropical Storm Dolly developed east of the Leeward Islands, with maximum winds of 40 mph, and is expected to weaken before reaching land.

The National Hurricane Center confirmed that a tropical storm designated Dolly formed in the Atlantic on Thursday morning. The system, previously tracked as Invest 96-L, is situated about 1,555 miles east of the Leeward Islands and has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph with a central pressure of 1007 mb. > "Dolly is expected to be a short-lived tropical storm and should degenerate into a tropical wave before reaching the islands," the agency said. Heavy rain from the storm could affect the Leeward Islands late Saturday into Sunday, though no coastal watches or warnings are currently in effect. Dolly is the fourth named storm of the Atlantic season.
