Dallas County identifies three sites linked to confirmed measles case

Résumé

Dallas County health officials confirmed a measles infection and listed three venues in Allen, Fairview and Frisco where the patient may have exposed others.

Dallas County health authorities have confirmed a single case of measles in a county resident and disclosed three locations the patient visited that could have been sites of exposure. The venues include the Turrentine Jackson Morrow Chapel in Allen on August 14 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Gloria’s Restaurant in Fairview on the same day from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., and the Revel Patio Grill in Frisco on August 15 from about 8 p.m. to midnight.

"Measles is one of the most contagious diseases we know, but it is also highly preventable," said Dr. Philip Huang, Dallas County health director. "If you were at one of these locations during the identified time period, check your vaccination status and watch closely for symptoms. Most importantly, make sure you and your family are up to date on the MMR vaccine. Vaccination remains our best protection against measles and the best way to prevent further spread in our community."

Officials noted that measles spreads through respiratory droplets and typically begins with fever, cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis and white spots in the mouth, followed by a rash several days later. They advised fully vaccinated individuals that their risk of infection is low, while urging those who are unvaccinated, too young for vaccination, or immunocompromised to monitor for symptoms and consult healthcare providers if concerns arise.
