Judge Schedules Evidentiary Hearing for Bryan Kohberger's Post-Conviction Petition
A Idaho judge has set a status conference for June 3, 2027 and an evidentiary hearing for June 17, 2027 on Bryan Kohberger's request to withdraw his guilty plea in the University of Idaho murders.
A Boise judge has scheduled a status conference on June 3, 2027 and an evidentiary hearing two weeks later, on June 17, 2027, to consider convicted murderer Bryan Kohberger’s petition for post-conviction relief. Kohberger, who pleaded guilty in July 2025 to the stabbing deaths of four University of Idaho students, filed a handwritten petition in July 2026 claiming he was coerced into a false confession and that his defense team failed to disclose exculpatory evidence, including untested hair found at the crime scene. Prosecutors had asked the court to dismiss the petition without a hearing. The plea agreement that led to his guilty plea waived his right to appeal, but it does not prevent a post-conviction challenge that could result in a new trial. Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador said his office is prepared to take any necessary steps to ensure justice is fully carried out. Kohberger’s new attorney has not commented on the petition.
