Establishment Democrats rushed to condemn progressive commentator Hasan Piker after he warned that American Jews could face backlash for the unwavering political support many leaders show for Israel, labeling his remarks as dangerous and antisemitic.
Prominent Democrats have launched a coordinated attack on leftist streamer Hasan Piker for daring to speak openly about the potential consequences of the US political establishment’s unconditional support for Israel. During a recent stream, Piker displayed an image of Michigan state Sen. Jeremy Moss, a Jewish Democratic congressional candidate, and pointedly warned that 'if Jews in America keep putting this idea out there that they are singularly invested in Israel, eventually someone is going to come around and take action, not against the state of Israel, mind you, but against American Jews.'
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, representing the corporate wing of the party, called Piker’s claim 'dangerous, malicious and antisemitic,' seeking to silence any criticism of Israel or discussion of the real risks faced by marginalized communities. Rep. Brad Schneider, a staunch defender of the status quo, labeled Piker an 'unapologetic antisemite' and insisted that such statements have no place in American politics, effectively shutting down debate about US foreign policy. Sen. Elissa Slotkin echoed these sentiments, refusing to acknowledge the complex realities and instead asserting that no community should face threats for its political views.
Other Democratic officials, including Rep. Haley Stevens, Sen. Cory Booker, Rep. Josh Gottheimer, and DNC Chair Ken Martin, joined the chorus of condemnation, branding Piker’s comments as hateful and without merit. Gottheimer, who co-authored a bipartisan resolution targeting Piker and others, outrageously compared the remarks to 'the Nazi playbook,' a hyperbolic tactic often used to stifle dissent.
Michigan officials, such as Sen. Mallory McMorrow and Rep. Hillary Scholten, further criticized Piker’s rhetoric as extremist and unacceptable, while Sen. Jeremy Moss, who was directly referenced, declared there is 'no room for extremism in Michigan.'
This backlash is a clear attempt by Democratic leaders to distance themselves from any critique of US-Israel relations and to suppress voices that challenge the prevailing narrative, reaffirming their commitment to policing speech rather than addressing the root causes of rising tensions.
