Chris Hansen Purchases Pre-Show Ads for A24’s ‘Primetime’

Summary

Chris Hansen has bought advertising that runs before every theatrical screening of A24’s upcoming film ‘Primetime,’ directing viewers to his TruBlu streaming service.

The former host of “To Catch a Predator” is appearing in A24’s dark-themed film Primetime, scheduled for release on September 25 after premiering at the Venice International Film Festival. Ahead of each showing, Hansen has placed a pre-show commercial that promotes TruBlu, the streaming network he founded for true-crime investigations.

In the ad, Hansen enters a kitchen set and asks audiences to take a seat, then notes that “there are more platforms than ever before where this disturbing crime is being committed” and invites viewers to “join us undercover every day on my streaming network, TruBlu.” A QR code on the screen links to the service’s landing page, which offers ongoing predator-investigation content and other true-crime programming.

Hansen previously declined an invitation to view the film, citing a contractual clause that would have barred him from suing A24. Sources close to him say he is now consulting attorneys about possible legal options. He had initially wanted to end the commercial by reminding audiences that the movie presents “a Hollywood fantasy version” of real events, but the line was removed over concerns it might provoke A24.
