2027 PGA Tour adds new event, drops Hawaii stops

Summary

The 2027 PGA Tour schedule introduces a new tournament and eliminates both Hawaiian events, while reshuffling several existing stops.

The PGA Tour’s 2027 calendar will see the removal of its two Hawaiian tournaments, ending the Sony Open’s 62-year run on the main tour after it moves to the senior circuit. In their place, the American Express tournament will open the season on Jan. 21-24, kicking off a West Coast swing that includes two signature events before the tour heads to Florida.

The Cadillac Championship has been moved to early March, taking the slot previously held by the Valspar Championship, and will provide playing opportunities between the Masters and the PGA Championship.

June will bring the U.S. Open back to Pebble Beach, followed by the Open Championship at St. Andrews in July. Later in the season, a new Sompo Championship in Napa will serve as the penultimate regular-season event before the FedEx Cup Playoffs conclude the year.

"The American Express tournament will kick off the playing calendar Jan. 21-24," the tour announced.

The schedule also notes a future change: starting in 2028, the Tour Championship will shift to a two-week, match-play format featuring round-robin groups that narrow 32 players to a 16-man bracket.
