Apple upgrades recent backordered Mac mini orders to newer M6 and M5 Pro models at no cost
Customers who ordered backordered Mac mini units with M4 chips are being offered free upgrades to the newly announced M6 or M5 Pro versions, according to reports from MacRumors and Reddit.
Apple has begun contacting customers who placed orders for Mac mini computers equipped with M4 chips before the company announced the M6 and M5 Pro variants. The company is offering to replace those pending M4 units with the newer M6 or M5 Pro models at no additional charge.
The upgrade process was first reported by MacRumors, which noted that Apple reached out to some buyers whose orders were still on backorder. A Reddit user confirmed the change, saying their M4 Pro order placed about ten days earlier was upgraded to an M5 Pro, resulting in a price difference of roughly $300 in their favor.
Apple has not released an official statement on the policy, but the practice appears to address customers who have been waiting for delivery while a newer generation of the Mac mini became available.
