Prince Harry and Meghan Return to Britain After Six Years
Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and their children arrived in the United Kingdom on a private jet, marking their first extended stay as private citizens since stepping back from royal duties in 2020.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle landed in Britain on Wednesday, traveling with their children, Archie and Lilibet, on a private Bombardier Global Express XRS jet that touched down at Birmingham Airport around midday. The family, who have been residing in the United States since 2020, are returning as private citizens and do not plan to resume official royal duties for King Charles III.
The couple’s move was disclosed last week, and their children are already enrolled in British schools for the upcoming term. A spokesperson for the Sussexes declined to comment on the trip when contacted.
King Charles, Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales were informed of the return earlier this month. The royal family had previously hosted the Sussexes during a summer visit to Highgrove House, where they met the monarch for the first time in four years.
Security arrangements remain uncertain. Harry has previously challenged reductions in his taxpayer-funded protection, a dispute that was upheld by the UK Court of Appeal last year. The Home Office is reviewing the level of protection required, and a government spokesperson described the protective system as "rigorous and proportionate."
Harry is expected to attend upcoming charity events, including a ceremony for the WellChild organization, and to prepare for the Invictus Games scheduled for Birmingham in 2025. Meghan is reportedly focusing on her lifestyle brand, As Ever, and may be in talks to appear in the third season of the film "The Gentlemen."
