A 22-year-old college student was shot and killed by police in Upper Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, after mistakenly knocking on the wrong door of a residence on Saturday night. The homeowner called 911 to report an attempted break-in, and officers arrived shortly after, finding the student in the back of the home. The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office said an encounter occurred that resulted in the fatal shooting, and the Upper Pottsgrove Police Department confirmed the incident is under investigation.
The student's mother, Erin Pysher, said her son was returning from a bar with friends and may have been confused about the location of the house, which is situated in a wooded area. She noted that a call log shows the student was on the phone with friends at 12:32 a.m., and police were on the scene by 12:35 a.m. She said no taser or other non-lethal force was used before the shooting.
The family has not received further information from the police department. The Montgomery County Detective Bureau did not respond to requests for comment. The student's father, Glenwood Pysher, expressed a desire for a thorough factual account of the events.
The deceased, known as Bubba, had recently transferred to Saint Elizabeth University in New Jersey and was preparing to start classes the following Monday. He was described by his parents as a good student and community member.
