Man arrested after guillotine found in pickup truck near Capitol
U.S. Capitol Police detained a 35-year-old California resident who was transporting a guillotine in his truck after it was spotted near the Capitol and Supreme Court buildings.
U.S. Capitol Police arrested Philan-Tam-Duy Le, 35, of Julian, California, on Tuesday on suspicion of carrying a dangerous weapon after a guillotine was discovered in the bed of his pickup truck parked near the Capitol and the Supreme Court. The vehicle was reported as illegally parked, prompting officers to stop the driver.
Le, who had driven from California to Washington, is being investigated to determine why he traveled to the capital. Police said investigators are reviewing his background.
Congress was in recess at the time, with lawmakers away from Washington. An Instagram story posted by an account appearing to belong to Le showed a video of a man with the guillotine outside the FBI headquarters, accompanied by a caption referencing "Guillotine adventures" and a plan to visit Capitol Hill.
