College student fatally shot by police after entering wrong house in Pennsylvania

Summary

Police shot unarmed 22-year-old New Jersey college student Glenn Pysher after he mistakenly knocked on a stranger’s door late Saturday night, authorities said.

Police in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, shot and killed 22-year-old Glenn “Bubba” Pysher, a New Jersey college student, after he mistakenly knocked on a residence that was not his friend’s home. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Saturday, when officers responded to a 911 call reporting a possible attempted break-in. According to the Montgomery District Attorney’s Office, the occupants of the house called police after being startled by Pysher’s presence.

"He ended up at the wrong house after having a few drinks. He didn’t know that, so he was knocking on the door saying, ‘Hey, let me in.’" – Erin Pysher, mother

Officers found Pysher in the rear of the home and an encounter ensued, resulting in him being shot. The family said he was unarmed, carrying only a cell phone and a backpack. The shooting was captured on surveillance cameras, and the footage is part of an ongoing investigation by the Montgomery County Detective’s Bureau.

Pysher, who had recently transferred to Saint Elizabeth University in New Jersey and was set to join the school’s baseball team, was described by his mother as a “lovable goofball” and a “wonderful young man.” The district attorney’s office has not released details on why officers discharged their weapons, and the case remains under investigation.
