摘要

The Maryland Department of Health announced a measles outbreak affecting Carroll, Cecil and St. Mary's counties, with 14 new cases among unvaccinated residents and a total of 31 confirmed cases this year.

The Maryland Department of Health announced an outbreak of measles in Carroll, Cecil and St. Mary's counties, adding 14 newly confirmed cases among unvaccinated residents. State officials said no public exposures have been identified and most cases involve household contacts, indicating no evidence of widespread community transmission.

As of Monday, Maryland has recorded 31 measles cases this year, including 27 confirmed since July 15. The recent cases comprise 13 in St. Mary's County, eight in Carroll County, five in Cecil County and one in Charles County. Four earlier cases were reported in Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Prince George's counties.

"Measles is highly contagious and we are actively working with healthcare professionals and local health departments to support impacted communities, respond to cases and mitigate further spread," Maryland Health Secretary Dr. Meena Seshamani said. "The overall risk remains low if you are fully vaccinated. We ask that Marylanders join us in our effort to help keep our youngest safe and protect those who are most at risk. Checking your vaccination status and getting vaccinated if you are not up-to-date is the simplest and most effective way to do that."

The department is coordinating with county health agencies to promote vaccination opportunities. It advises residents to verify their immunization status through the My Immunization Record system and to receive the recommended two-dose measles vaccine series, typically administered at 12-15 months and again at 4-6 years of age.

People who are not fully vaccinated and suspect exposure are urged to monitor for symptoms for up to 21 days and contact their healthcare provider or local health department for guidance, including possible post-exposure treatment.
