Former Ole Miss tight end Dae'Quan Wright waived by Browns, linked to LSU transfer

Resumen

Tight end Dae'Quan Wright was released by the Cleveland Browns and is expected to enroll at LSU after clearing NFL waivers, becoming the first player to move from an NFL roster back to college football.

The Cleveland Browns have waived former Ole Miss tight end Dae'Quan Wright, ESPN reported, clearing the way for him to join Louisiana State University once he passes through NFL waivers. Wright, who spent the preseason on the Browns' practice squad, is believed to be the first player to transition from an NFL roster back to college football.

"Wright is believed to be the first player who could play for an NFL team, and then go back to play in college," the report added. Wright entered the NCAA transfer portal after a temporary restraining order from a Louisiana court allowed several athletes to seek a fifth year of eligibility. The court order also enabled other players, including former SMU running back TJ Harden and former BYU offensive lineman Weylin Lapuaho, to enter the portal. During his final college season, Wright recorded 39 receptions for 635 yards and five touchdowns, helping Ole Miss reach the College Football Playoff. He scored touchdowns against South Carolina and in the semifinal loss to Miami. The move follows a broader legal challenge involving 33 athletes who sued for an additional year of eligibility, a case highlighted by the Associated Press earlier in the week.
