Houston Astros and GM Dana Brown Agree to Part Ways

Resumen

The Astros announced a mutual separation from general manager Dana Brown, with his duties shifting to assistant GMs and senior advisor Jeff Bagwell while owner Jim Crane oversees operations during the transition.

The Houston Astros said they have mutually agreed to end the employment of general manager Dana Brown. The team’s press release indicated that Brown’s responsibilities will be transferred to assistant general managers Charles Cook, Gavin Dickey and Connor Huff, as well as senior advisor Jeff Bagwell, while owner Jim Crane will supervise baseball operations throughout the transition period.

"Over the past four seasons, Dana has helped our organization win two division titles and has led our baseball front office through key scouting, draft and development efforts," Crane said in a statement. "On behalf of the Astros, I want to thank him for his commitment, energy, and contributions to our organization. We wish him and his family the best."

Brown issued his own remarks, thanking Crane for the opportunity to serve as an MLB general manager and expressing gratitude for the support he received from the organization and its fans during his four-year tenure.

Brown was hired as Houston’s general manager in January 2023, following a period in which the club operated without a permanent GM after former GM James Click declined a one-year contract extension. During the 2023 offseason, the Astros signed first baseman José Abreu and pitcher Rafael Montero to multi-year contracts; Abreu was later released and Montero posted a 4.94 ERA over 105⅓ innings before the contracts were restructured.

Since assuming the role, Brown oversaw several player extensions, including a five-year, $64 million deal for Cristian Javier and a five-year, $125 million agreement with José Altuve covering the 2025-29 seasons. Extensions for other core players such as Jeremy Peña, Kyle Tucker, Hunter Brown, Alex Bregman and Framber Valdez have not yet been finalized.
