Warrant Issued for Missing Massachusetts Mental-Health Advocate in Officer Killing
Police have issued a warrant for 58-year-old Karen Solomon, who disappeared after her husband, Officer Kurt Solomon, was found dead in Worcester, and are searching for her as an armed and dangerous suspect.
Massachusetts authorities have released an arrest warrant for Karen Solomon, a 58-year-old mental-health advocate, after she vanished on Tuesday following the fatal shooting of her husband, Officer Kurt Solomon, in Worcester. Police Chief Paul Saucier said Solomon faces a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, describing the weapon as a sharp object, but did not disclose further details. The department has warned that Solomon should be considered armed and dangerous.
Search operations, including divers and K-9 units, are concentrated around Coes Pond, which has been temporarily closed to the public. A wake for Kurt Solomon is scheduled for Tuesday, with a funeral planned for Wednesday.
Solomon founded First HELP, a nonprofit that provides suicide-prevention services for first responders, and has authored two books on the physical and psychological challenges faced by emergency personnel. Kurt Solomon, a 31-year veteran of the Worcester Police Department, was a father of two; it is unclear whether the children are shared with Karen Solomon.
