Tanker Hit by Projectile Near Saudi Coast Amid Rising US-Iran Tensions

Resumen

A tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile 63 nautical miles off Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, while Iranian officials warned of halting oil exports if U.S. economic pressure continues.

A tanker sailing about 63 nautical miles off Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, was hit by an unidentified projectile, UK Marine Trade Operations reported on Monday. The strike damaged the vessel's main deck and caused a fire, but the crew were reported safe and no environmental impact was noted, the agency said on social media.

Iranian officials responded by threatening to cease all oil exports if the United States maintains what they described as an "economic war" against Iran. Mohsen Rezaee, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, posted on X that "not a single drop of oil will be exported, neither through the Strait of Hormuz nor from anywhere in the Persian Gulf" if the pressure continues, adding that any support for the U.S. policy would be treated as an act of war.

The Persian Gulf Strait Authority also warned that vessels violating Iranian protocols in the Strait of Hormuz could face fines, detention or confiscation, and advised ship owners to review a list of non-compliant vessels.

The incidents come after President Donald Trump announced a major economic operation against Iran on his social platform, describing it as the "most crushing economic operation ever taken against any country."
