Will Forte and Lana Condor Express Relief as 'Coyote vs. Acme' Secures Theatrical Release

Summary

After a three-year delay and a $30 million tax write-off by Warner Bros-Discovery, the Looney Tunes film 'Coyote vs. Acme' will open in theaters on Aug. 28, distributed by Ketchup Entertainment.

The Looney Tunes-inspired comedy "Coyote vs. Acme" is set to debut in U.S. cinemas on Aug. 28, with Ketchup Entertainment handling distribution. The film, directed by Dave Green and starring Will Forte, Lana Condor, John Cena and others, had been postponed for nearly three years after Warner Bros-Discovery shelved it in late 2023 as part of a $30 million tax write-off.

Forte told DiscussingFilm that after an early private screening he initially doubted the movie’s quality, but later described it as "magic" and "freakin’ awesome." Condor said the positive reaction to the screening reinforced her belief that the film would eventually be released, despite the studio’s decision to hold back the project.

The story follows Wile E. Coyote, who hires attorney Kevin Avery (played by Forte) to sue the Acme Corporation for its defective products, while Condor portrays a supporting character. The screenplay, written by Samy Burch from a story by James Gunn, Jeremy Slater and the original New Yorker article by Ian Frazier, also features a range of Looney Tunes characters.

Warner Bros-Discovery’s postponement of "Coyote vs. Acme" coincided with similar delays to other titles such as "Batgirl" and "Scoob! Holiday Haunt," reflecting broader strategic shifts following the company’s merger.
