Apple plans to release new iMac with M6 processor and refreshed colors before year-end

Summary

Apple is developing an iMac powered by its upcoming M6 chip, featuring new color options and slated for launch before the end of the year, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman.

Apple is preparing to launch an updated iMac that will be equipped with the company’s next-generation M6 processor and will offer new color choices, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported. The refresh is expected to arrive before the end of the calendar year.

The iMac has not been updated for two years and previously skipped the M2 and M5 chip families. It also lacks a larger display variant, with Apple directing high-end users toward Mac Studio or Mac mini paired with a Studio Display. Gurman said the upcoming model will include “some new color options,” though specific shades were not disclosed.

The M6 chip will be the first Mac silicon built on a 2 nanometer process. Apple does not plan to release M6 Pro, Max, or Ultra versions, instead focusing on an accelerated rollout of the subsequent M7 family. The iMac refresh is part of a broader anticipated fall lineup that could also include revamped MacBook Pro models, a new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6, updated Mac Studio machines with M5 Max and M5 Ultra, and possibly a refreshed Mac mini with M6 and M5 Pro chips.
