17-Year-Old Girl Identified as Victim of Sword Attack at Swedish High School

Resumen

Police say a 17-year-old girl was the fatal victim of a sword attack at Brinell School in Fagersta, Sweden, where two other students were seriously injured and an 18-year-old suspect was detained.

Police confirmed that a 17-year-old girl died after a sword attack at Brinell School in the central Swedish town of Fagersta on Friday afternoon. Two other students, a 12-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy, were seriously injured, and a third person sustained minor injuries.

An 18-year-old male suspect was arrested at the scene and is being held on murder and attempted murder charges. Authorities said the suspect was wearing a helmet and was a former student of the school. Police fired shots after arriving, but it was not disclosed whether the suspect was hit before being detained.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and opposition leader Magdalena Andersson visited the school on Saturday, where flowers had been placed in tribute. Kristersson described the incident as "serious" and said police were working intensively to determine the motive.

The region declared a state of emergency on Friday, which was lifted by Saturday. Investigators have conducted two house searches linked to the case. Brinell School serves just under 500 students and is located about 170 km northwest of Stockholm.
