Buffalo Bills mourn death of defensive tackle Ed Oliver's 2-year-old son
The Buffalo Bills expressed condolences after the two-year-old son of defensive tackle Ed Oliver died, with authorities linking the incident to a drowning in Texas.
The Buffalo Bills announced on Saturday that the two-year-old son of defensive tackle Ed Oliver has died. The team said it will continue to support Oliver and his family during their grief.
"On behalf of the entire Buffalo Bills organization, we want to publicly express our condolences to Ed Oliver and his family on the loss of his son. We will continue to support Ed and his family as we all grieve this loss," team general manager Brandon Beane said in a statement.
The cause of death has not been disclosed by the team. Earlier in June, Harris County, Texas, authorities responded to a report of a toddler found unresponsive in a swimming pool at an address that matches Oliver's listed residence. The sheriff's office said the child was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
"The toddler was transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced deceased," Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said at the time.
Oliver, 28, from Houston, played college football for the Houston Cougars and is entering his eighth NFL season with the Bills. NBC News has contacted the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and Oliver’s representatives for comment.
