Kansas City concluded its training camp with optimism about several young players, while noting concerns over depth on the offensive line and certain defensive prospects.

Kansas City finished its preseason camp in St. Joseph, Missouri, and is preparing for a Week 2 exhibition game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Coaches highlighted a revamped roster that blends veteran talent with younger players on both sides of the ball.

The secondary’s new cornerback pairing of rookie Mansoor Delane and second-year Carr Williams drew particular attention. Delane, now healthy, is described as a potential "shut-down" corner, while Williams entered the league after leading the FBS with seven interceptions and has shown strong coverage skills. The team expects growing pains and occasional penalties as the duo adjusts.

Offensive line prospects also received focus. Indiana product Kahlil Benson is being evaluated for a long-term role at right tackle or guard, and his physical style is seen as a fit for the Chiefs’ run-oriented attack. However, interior guard depth remains a concern, with Mike Caliendo, Hunter Norzad and CJ Hanson viewed as insufficient to sustain the line if multiple players are required simultaneously.

Running back Kenneth Walker, signed in free agency, impressed staff with his versatility, and head coach Andy Reid appears inclined to increase his involvement in the offense. Additional players noted for positive development include running back Emmitt Johnson, wide receiver Cyrus Allen, edge rusher Mason Thomas and quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.

Conversely, the camp highlighted several players facing challenges. Edge rusher Felix Anudike-Uzomah has been outperformed by rookie Mason Thomas, and the late addition of former Chief Emmanuel Ogbah suggests the staff is seeking more veteran depth on the defensive line. Wide receiver Jalen Royals remains low on the depth chart behind established targets such as Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Tyquan Thornton, Travis Kelce and rookie Cyrus Allen, limiting his prospects for a breakout season.

Defensive prospects Jeffrey Bassa and Jaden Hicks were identified as potential contributors who could help elevate the unit if they secure consistent roles.

The Chiefs will look to translate these observations into on-field performance when the preseason resumes next week.
