Ketel Marte placed on 10-day injured list after knee inflammation and meeting with Diamondbacks officials
Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte was moved to the 10-day injured list due to left knee inflammation and is expected to return around Aug. 30, after a meeting with the team’s management.
Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte was placed on the 10-day injured list on Thursday, Aug. 20, after an MRI showed inflammation in his left knee. The team said he received an injection to reduce the swelling and could be eligible to return as early as Aug. 30, provided he regains full health.
Marte had been absent from the team’s Aug. 17 game at Fenway Park and was placed on the restricted list that day. The club’s statement said he was dealing with a personal issue, though no details were disclosed.
General manager Mike Hazen said Marte met with club officials, including manager Torey Lovullo and his agent Charisse Espinosa-Dash, for several hours to discuss the situation. Hazen declined to provide specifics, noting the conversation was "productive" and that Marte would later speak with teammates.
The injured-list placement cannot be backdated, meaning Marte will not be paid for the three days he spent on the restricted list.
