Michael Cohen, who previously testified against President Donald Trump, addressed the president on a New York radio program in a markedly deferential manner, prompting commentary about his shift in tone.
President Donald Trump was interviewed on New York’s 77 WABC radio program hosted by Michael Cohen, the ex-personal lawyer who testified before Congress in 2019. During the conversation Cohen referred to Trump as “boss” and “sir,” a departure from the critical language he used in his earlier testimony, which described the president as a “racist,” “conman” and “cheat.”
Cohen, who has previously acknowledged arranging a $130,000 payment to adult-film actress Stormy Daniels on Trump’s behalf, also discussed his own legal history, noting that both he and Trump have faced extensive investigations by the Justice Department. Trump responded by saying the department had “weaponised” Cohen and others, and praised Cohen for “recanting” his earlier statements.
The interview covered familiar topics for the former president, including claims about the war in Iran, border security and the state of the economy. Cohen expressed admiration for Trump’s past polling analysis and defended the president against what he described as “crooked” media coverage. The discussion concluded without new substantive revelations.
Legal analyst Stacy Schneider, commenting on the interview for CNN, likened the reunion of Cohen and Trump to a historic political betrayal, highlighting the stark contrast between Cohen’s prior testimony and his current tone.
