Taylor Sheridan says $330 million Texas ranch purchase led to Paramount exclusivity deal

Summary

The writer-director bought the Four Sixes Ranch for $330 million, which prompted him to sign an exclusive agreement with Paramount and continue producing new series.

Taylor Sheridan said that acquiring the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas for $330 million convinced him to sign an exclusive development deal with Paramount, rather than retire after completing "Yellow Yellowstone." During an interview on the "Rodeo Time" podcast, the 56-year-old explained that he had planned to step back after the series and use the ranch as a personal hobby, but the purchase required him to stay active in his career. He noted that he ensured the ranch’s general manager would remain in place and that his son would eventually take over operations.

Sheridan first encountered the property while filming season four of "Yellowstone" and learned that the former owner, Anne Marion, had intended the land to be preserved according to her vision. After her death, the estate sought a buyer, and Sheridan led a group of investors that closed the sale on Jan. 21, 2022.

He said Paramount had been pursuing an overall deal for years, fearing he might move to another studio. Once the ranch purchase was underway, he contacted Paramount and agreed to an exclusive agreement, stating he had a specific figure in mind.

Since the deal, Sheridan has created a slate of series for the studio, including "Mayor of Kingstown," "1883," "1923," "Lioness," "Landman," "Tulsa King" and "The Madison."
