Security Aviation Cessna crashes in Southwest Alaska, killing pilot and seven passengers

Resumen

A Security Aviation Cessna 441 carrying a pilot and seven passengers went down near Cape Newenham in Southwest Alaska, with no survivors reported.

A Security Aviation Cessna 441 aircraft crashed west of Cape Newenham’s airport at about 12:15 p.m. on Thursday while en route from Anchorage to the remote radar site. The flight, which had a pilot and seven passengers on board, failed to arrive at its destination, prompting an alert from Anchorage air traffic controllers.

Federal Aviation Administration officials confirmed the crash location near the Cape Newenham Long-Range Radar Site. Alaskan Command military officials, who manage the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, reported that search and rescue teams were on scene by Thursday evening.

"There was no indication of any survivors as of Thursday afternoon," NTSB investigator Millicent Hill said.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA have opened investigations into the cause of the accident.
