Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio highlighted the progress of second-year defensive tackle Ty Robinson, praised the value of joint practices with the Patriots, and evaluated depth across the Eagles' defensive roster during training camp.

Philadelphia defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said second-year defensive tackle Ty Robinson showed noticeable improvement in the preseason opener, noting the player "came to life" after a period of limited impact. Robinson, a fourth-round pick who saw limited snaps as a rookie, recorded a sack against the Ravens and is now competing for a roster spot behind Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Moro Ojomo and Byron Young.

Fangio expressed strong support for the upcoming joint practices with the New England Patriots, calling them "great" and saying they provide exposure to new schemes and unscouted looks that benefit the team.

When asked about playing time in the recent game, Fangio explained that linebacker Jihaad Campbell saw limited snaps because he needs more repetitions, while safety Marcus Epps was rested to allow Michael Carter II to receive more snaps at safety for evaluation. Carter has been used at nickel, safety and dime positions in camp and is being considered for a starting safety role or as a versatile backup.

The coach highlighted the development of inside linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr., saying his instincts and play recognition have improved after three years in the system. Fangio described the inside-linebacker group as the deepest position on defense, listing several players across three depth tiers.

He also noted that seventh-round rookies Cole Wisniewski and Keyshawn James-Newby returned from injuries, emphasizing that missed repetitions are difficult to recover given the premium placed on practice reps.
