Trump Mulls Male Candidate for White House Press Secretary

Résumé

President Donald Trump is reportedly considering a male replacement for outgoing press secretary Karoline Leavitt, with names such as Scott Jennings and former Bush administration aide Ari Fleischer mentioned.

President Donald Trump has indicated to senior advisers that he prefers a man to succeed Karoline Leavitt as White House press secretary, sources familiar with the discussions said. Leavitt, who has served since the start of Trump’s second term, plans to leave the role at the end of August and remain as an outside senior adviser.

Among the men being considered are conservative commentator Scott Jennings, who has been widely reported as a front-runner, and former President George W. Bush’s press secretary Ari Fleischer. One source said Trump has not yet made a final decision.

The president is not in a hurry to fill the vacancy. The White House could continue the briefing format used during Leavitt’s recent maternity leave, when Vice President JD Vance and several cabinet members, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, conducted press briefings.

Another potential candidate mentioned by a White House-close source is Natalie Harp, a former aide who previously appeared on One America News Network. The source suggested media attention could elevate her to the post.

"She was on OANN," the source said, adding that the media might "make her press secretary."
