Seahawks Delay Signing of Cornerback Terrion Arnold Amid Ongoing Legal Issues
The Seattle Seahawks have not yet signed cornerback Terrion Arnold, citing his pending criminal case and the likelihood that he would be placed on paid leave if signed.
The Seattle Seahawks reached a verbal agreement to add cornerback Terrion Arnold to their roster six days ago but have not completed the signing. Team officials indicated that the agreement was based on the expectation that Arnold could participate in preseason practices and games. However, the league has informed the Seahawks that Arnold would be placed on paid leave immediately upon signing, preventing him from taking part in any activities.
According to a league source and comments from general manager John Schneider on the television series "Hard Knocks," the Seahawks could retain Arnold's rights for future use but may choose to wait until his legal matters are resolved. Arnold faces eight felony charges, with his next court appearance scheduled for October 5 and no trial date set. The timeline for a possible resolution, including a plea deal or trial, remains uncertain and could extend beyond the 2026 season.
If the Seahawks decide to sign Arnold later, they could add him to the 90-man roster and place him on the Commissioner Exempt list, but he would remain ineligible to play until the league lifts the paid-leave status and any suspension is served. The team also faces the risk that Arnold might sign with another franchise if cleared to return.
Schneider described the allegations against Arnold as "very shocking," noting that even endorsements from former coaches or teammates would not affect the legal outcome. Should prosecutors secure a conviction, Arnold could be barred from playing for the Seahawks or any other NFL team.
