Chargers rookie says team dominated 49ers in joint practice

摘要

Los Angeles Chargers rookie Brenen Thompson praised his team's performance after a joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers, while 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy noted inconsistencies and injury challenges.

Los Angeles Chargers rookie Brenen Thompson said his team "tore them up" after a joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday, adding that the Chargers offense scored numerous touchdowns. Thompson contributed to the scoring, recording two deep touchdowns, including a play where he outran defenders Deommodore Lenoir and Ji’Ayir Brown.

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert also featured prominently, with the offense regularly making plays, according to practice reports. The 49ers' offense showed mixed results, and quarterback Brock Purdy described the session as not their best, citing off-day fundamentals and a lack of intensity.

"Honestly, I don’t think it was our best day," Purdy said. "I feel like fundamentals and stuff were just a little off and whatnot."

Purdy attributed some of the 49ers' struggles to injuries that have affected the receiving corps, including season-ending and other injuries to Ricky Pearsall, Mike Evans, Christian Kirk and De’Zhaun Stribling. He noted that backup receivers have stepped up but emphasized the need for continuity.

"I love all of our receivers and stuff. I know we’ve had some grinders and some practices the last couple of days… they’re going to bounce back."

The teams will meet again on Thursday for a preseason game, with 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan expected to give some starters, possibly including Purdy, an opportunity to showcase their readiness ahead of the regular season.
